Do You have the Wrong Idea about Liposuction?

Liposuction, the surgical technique performed to reduce unwanted fat, has been one of the most frequently-performed procedures for years. Just hearing the term may lead to assumptions about what liposuction is and what it can do. What happens when we think we know all there is to know about any given thing is that we create a chance that we could miss out on something spectacular. Let’s look at liposuction as an example. Making an assumption about this procedure could mean overlooking the benefits you could gain from it. We don’t want that to happen.
The liposuction procedure is conducted for one reason: to enhance the figure. But there is more to it than that:
- A “skinny person” could benefit from liposuction. Because liposuction is a method of fat-reduction, there is a common perception that this treatment could not possibly be suitable for a thinner person. Not necessarily. The surgical fat reduction is ideal for the person who is within 10 to 20 pounds of their ideal weight.
- Liposuction isn’t just for abdominal fat. As technology has evolved, we have witnessed an expansion in the capabilities of liposuction. In addition to reducing waist circumference, liposuction can now be performed to slim the hips, buttocks, neck, arms, and the thighs, to name a few less-common areas.
- Liposuction will help you lose fat, but it won’t make you lose weight. One might think that one would naturally lead to the other: fat removal equals lower weight. This doesn’t happen after liposuction, and it’s important that patients know this is going in. Sure, there may be a slight change on the scale, but the bigger change shows up in clothing sizes and visible body contouring.
- Body contouring may be optimized with adjunct procedures. Liposuction is intended for the removal of fat cells. If superficial tissues have also become thin and loose, the body may need a bit more refining to look outstanding. This is why liposuction and abdominoplasty keep such good company. BTL Exilis skin tightening may also be considered for non-surgical contouring assistance.
