The Path to Your Best Nose

Your nose is a feature you have grown up with. It is something you see on a daily basis, and something that gives character to your face. If the shape or size – or both – of your nose is not completely in harmony with the rest of your face, you may have suffered years of insecurity related to your appearance. If you can relate to this, you are not alone. Surgical rhinoplasty, or the nose job, is one of the top cosmetic procedures performed each year. This procedure can significantly improve your sense of self. The thing is, you do need to go about your journey with care.
Because the nose is the central feature of the face, it is responsible for setting the tone across the midline. Imperfections, whether present from early childhood or the result of facial trauma of some sort, can be extremely detrimental to the overall appearance of the face. This sounds like bad news, but maybe it isn’t. Understanding the intensity of impact the nose has, a skilled cosmetic surgeon can determine the most streamlined path to near-perfection. Minor changes may be all that are needed for monumental change.
Rhinoplasty is rather intricate, an “art of millimeters.” For this reason, the journey is one of careful steps.
What do you want?
The first step to take toward rhinoplasty is determining what you want. This doesn’t mean looking at pictures of celebrities or even Rhinoplasty Before and Afters. It means observing your nose and making note of the nuances you want to change – what you don’t like and what you’d like to see. For instance, is there a bump on the bridge of your nose that disrupts its shape? Are your nostrils too wide or too narrow? Is the tip of your nose turned upward or downward? What is the width of your nose?
Whom do you trust?
Remember we said “art of millimeters?” Ultimately, rhinoplasty is going to change the entire appearance of your face. It is important to expect this, and also to know there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to the nose. Optimal results stem from careful planning and the background of training. Dr. Sargeant is a board-certified plastic surgeon with additional training in craniofacial surgery. In addition to private practice experience, he has also served as a Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine for the past two decades.
